Here is a rare breed. No pun intended. Featured is a 1958/59 American Breeders Service Semi. DeSalle references the existence of this model in his Tonka price guide but no picture is available.
Value: The 1958/59 American Breeders Service semi featured below sold on eBay for $4000+ USD in mid 2007.
Value: An original, clean, unretouched 1958/59 American Breeders Service semi in excellent condition, dulled tired paint, numerous scratches, typical heavy scratching on fifth wheel, missing both rear door handles, sold on eBay for $1900 USD in late October 2011.

The 1960 American Breeders Service semi featured above and to the left, drew a lot of interest when it was on eBay. It was initially owned by an American Breeders Service employee. The cab is clearly 1960 based on the seller's (not the original owner) listing photos. The only real rub were questions related to the graphics on the rear doors of the trailer. The decal is clearly different than the decal featured on the 1958/59 semi. Guy confirmed to me that the decal was applied after the fact. Note the lack of door handles and the lack of holes to affix the handles. Guy also confirmed that there appears to be "something" red visible under a tear in the decal and appears to be the originally applied decal. |
